I am just about to buy one, with the main purpose of storing and loading games to play on a XEGS.

A few quick questions.

1. I am planning on getting a 4GB CF card. Would that work OK and are there any known cards which have issues?

2. How would I set this up\load the menu software that is shown in the FAT32 XEX Loader video at: http://www.atarimax.com/myide/documentation/ - The link to download Maxflash Studio Software for Windows on the page is dead. Would I also need to program\flash the cartridge in any way, or just load files on a CF card and go?

4Gb will do fine.

Just format the card fat32 on your PC and drop your XEX, COM, BIN or R16 (XEGS-conversions) files on it.

The fat-loader is pre-installed on the cartridge.

So Plug-and-play, can't go wrong.

One note:
There is a file-number limit in root and directories.
So just take care about this.
Not sure anymore, 128 or 256 files.
Strip the filename of garbage-ascii-codes, it can upset the loader.

Just got one of these carts and after I loaded all of my atr's on it, the menu shows all of the files but when I try to load one, I get the following message:

"Error loading OS-B Rom image.
Press any key to continue."

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Roger

Also, when I try to load MyDOS from the main menu, I get a rainbow screen and nothing else happens... :(

Thanks again!

You need the OS-B rom-files in the root of your SD-card, that is all.

Both files needed:
osb.bin
mathpack.bin

Don't rename them either.

Please note that the ATR-loader runs from a OS in ram (same as MyBIOS) and conflicting software won't run.
Look for a XEX-file instead then or an alternative hacked file.

The rainbow-screen is a message that you have not booted any software.
It's equivalent to the NOTEPAD-screen on 400/800 computers.
So select BASIC or boot a ATR.

Thank you for the reply and your dedication to helping people on their forum. I have just ordered one (was waiting to see if it would be reduced on a Black Friday sale, lol!).

Just regarding the R16 (XEGS-conversions) file you mentioned. Do you have any more information about these and what improvements they offer, and more importantly where I might be able to locate them?

I found a couple on forums and did a fair bit of searching before asking here, but expect there is more or a whole collection somewhere out there....

Now that I've DL'd those two files I can use ATR files but the XEX files also work well... my question now is that I have some ATR files for multi-disc games but how do you load the second disc/file when prompted?!? For games like Mindshadow, Cutthroats, Alternate Reality, etc.

Thanks again,
Roger

Roger:

>This is for advanced users:
Setup a MyBIOS partition and copy the ATR's in sequence to IMAGE-space.
When your current card has no MyBIOS partition, take a new card, since re-partitioning will wipe the current card....
Use the PC-tool to copy ATR's to IMAGE-space.
Now bootup in MyBIOS and use START to load a disk from IMAGE-space.
Select the first disk and boot it.
Now when you need to switch to disk 2, press SHIFT+CONTROL+2, then continue with the instructions on screen.

Cheers,
Sijmen.

StarshipUK:
Here on the forum, section R16.
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1338
They are basically the same as XEGS, so 16k banked roms upto 256k (8k-LEFT-fixed/8k-RIGHT-banked).
The R16 ending means the banks are patched to match MyIDE-][ and the FAT32-loader accepts this file-format.
