Hi,

I have a very basic question about how to use my MyIDE-II cartridge. When I boot my 800XL it boots normally. From here I can choose MyBIOS and I am presented with a (timered, god knows why) black screen with some options. One of these options is to boot in to built-in Basic. When I press this button I always end up in a DOS menu. In fact, no matter what option I select from the timered selection screen, I always go into the DOS menu.

I feel like I may have messed something up.

How am I supposed to boot into BASIC with the MyIDE-II cartridge installed?
Is every option supposed to boot into the DOS menu?
And why on earth is that MyBIOS screen timered? It makes no sense to me at all.

I have check this. Tomorrow if time.
You downloaden the manual from the forum I assume.
What firmware is on your myide2, original or updated to?

The timer is for starting up automatic after a reboot
and the user is not present.
You can skip the timer by pressing a key.

Grtz, Sijmen

Its a known bug. Better update to a newer version.

I've never updated anything, so I suppose it's the bug described in the post you linked.

I'll have a look at upgrading. Do I require anything special to do that? Obviously I haven't read the manual yet :)

Ok, I have updated the firmware with the version found in this post:

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1310

I used the first post, not the Beta one.

Booting into built-in Basic using the Option key still does not work. I can use the workaround (pressing Select when booting and then selecting B).

I do have a follow-on question. When I boot into Basic, should I be able to access the drives I have defined (D0 and D1, etc?)

That version, or all versions, of the 4.8 have this bug.

Best is to upgrade to the latest version, so I know what you are talking about.

http://www.mr-atari.com/Mr.Atari/MyIDE-ONLY/
The update is linked to my homepage.
#7 is the latest.

The content of your cartride then contains the original 4.8 firmware, the latest 4.9 firmware and the last MyBIOS I build.
Including the MyIDE-only, that only patches the internal OS without installing a complete BIOS.

Your question, yes, once you have installed MyBIOS (or the MyIDE-only) you will be able to see all drives mapped to your CF-card.

General manual here:
http://www.mr-atari.com/Mr.Atari/MyBIOS/

I haven't touched my software since ages, so I have to do my homework too.

Slight problem,

Yesterday I updated the firmware my selecting the .bin file and pressing CTRL+F.

Today when I press CTRL+F nothing happens. Is there a different key combo to start the update?

Ok, been busy, no idea what you mean or goes wrong.

control-f is only for (after selecting an appropriatie file) to flash your cartridge-content.
After updating, control f, is not needed unless you want to update again to something else.

The update file is named MyIDE-][.bin, select that one and press control f and wait to finish (!)
It's in the MyIDE-ONLY #7.zip file.

When you want to load a file from the fat-loader, just press enter.

So, I download the MyIDE-ONLY #7.zip file and unpacked it.
I put the MyIDE-][.bin on a compact flash card and inserted it.
Booted up my 800XL and then started the FAT loader.
Selected the MyIDE-][.bin file and pressed CTRL+F, but nothing happens.

Which is odd, because the previous time I tried to flash the cartridge, pressing CTRL+F worked fine.

Ok, very strange.

Out of curiosity I repeated your steps.
Downloaded the #7 file.
Put the MyIDE-][.bin on a CF card.
Pop it in the MyIDE-][ and booted the atari.
Loaded the atarimax fat32 loader.
selected the MyIDE-][.bin file and pressed control F

Then it pre-loads the flash file, asks me if I am sure to erase and reprogram, <Y> waiting for $3F banks to write, ready.
Rebooted the Atari, yes, new content is present.

So, could it be that your control F key does not work?
That would be a curious issue.
Just go to the selftest, select keyboard and press control F, the screen should respond / beeps when detected.

Can you upload a foto of your atarimax bootup screen?

It's really odd, I know.

I tested my CTRL+F keys and they test fine.

Included a picture of the boot screen.

Where did you find this update?
I guess it's an very old one that does not support flashing from-out the fat32-loader.....
Oh man....
I can create a bootable ATR for you, that can flash the cartridge.
But you must be able to handle an ATR file and mount it as D1 on your SIO-port.

Ok, here is an boot-able disk with flash software and the MyIDE-][ #7 content.

Put the ATR as D1 on your SIO-bus.
Boot the atari and select "disable cartridge and coldstart"
Follow the onscreen instructions

Sijmen.

I found this note on the FAT32 page....

As of version 20130110 the FAT32 loader supports 'self programming' of the onboard boot flash using a image stored on the FAT32 partition as the source.
So your findings are correct, the build you used does not support flashing from the build-in-fat32-loader.

As work around is suggests to load the newer fat32 loader from IDE with the build in one.
Then select the .bin file and press control-F

Ok, now, let me not forget this the next time ;-)
