I am having the similar problem trying to create an OSS Basic XE 4,1 cart.
I have the complete AtariMax development kit, and several Basic XE files types - ATR, ROM, etc.
However, when creating a new cart from the ATR file, it boots on my Atari 130XE and can select Basic XE from the menu. But from there ii just locks up.

Any ideas? - thanks

Original OSS-files uses a different banking-scheme.
To make them work on MaxFlash you need to do a lot of work.
So it's not a one on one copy process.

The flashfile above and resulting cartridge, works just fine.

Mr. Atari, I really do appreciate the amount of effort put into creating images from these vintage 8bit systems, which is why I'm trying to recreate the setup & environment form my early days of computers and software development (1979 to present). So I want to say THANK YOU (and everyone) in advance for your help. But I have tried burning the cartridge again, with the same results.

What is strange is that when I plug the cart into my Atari 130XE and boot it, I get a screen from the "ATARIMAX Flash Utility" about burning the cart again - see attachment - however, when pressing ANY key it displays a "B;" at the prompt and locks up.

Any other suggestions? or is there an issue with using this cart on the 130XE? or are there other ATR/ROM/CAR files I should try?

Much appreciated.

Thanks for the compliments :-)

I will try to reproduce at my place.

But the first thing I see is that a 8mb cartridge is detected, where as the file is for a 1mb cartridge.

If that is incorrect, there may be an issue with your 130xe.
The machine, is it original, or are there any memory extensions or system alterations in place?

Grtz,
Sijmen.

[edit]
No, can't reproduce.
When you use a 8mb cartridge, it starts the program-cycle anyway (I don't get your lockup-screen).
Then when it tries to flash bank $10 it errors out (correct, since there is no data to read).
Do you have another machine or do you have the atarimax-programmer?

[2nd edit]
Did you remove the flasher-disk?
Basic XE allows diskboot and when the flasher still is inside, it will re-run for ever.
Just remove the disk and boot the cartridge with nothing powered on or attached to the machine.

Mr. Atari,

The 130XE has not been modified to my knowledge and only has the stock amount of memory.
I do have the complete AtariMax programmer package, but I do not know what the 'flash disk' is.

I didn't think the cartridge storage size mattered, but I think that is the root of my problem.
So I will get a 1mbit cart and try it as well.

big Thanks

I think we talk a different language here about how to flash the cartridge, sorry.

The "flash disk" is the download in the first post.
If you boot that disk with the atarimax inserted, it will detect and flash the content from disk onto the cartridge.
Hence, I call it the flash disk.

Now, when you try to flash a 8mb with a 1mb image, all goes well until you hit bank $10 to load/flash.
There is no more data to read from the disk, so it errors out here.
But still, after flashing, the 8mb cartridges should work (they are compatible)

After flashing the cartridge, you need to remove this disk, then restart your system.
If you leave the disk inside, it will detect and ask you to flash, over and over again...

What did you put on the cartridge, can you zip and upload the file for me to check?
I need to have something to reproduce your finding and debug the situation.

Lastly, a stock Atari should be OK, so that is fine.

Grtz,
Sijmen.

I am having problems with the detection of my cartridges, I am using 8 Mbit carts but it only sees them as 1 Mb
I am trying to flash Basic XE onto a 8 Mbit cart , I have 6 of them...

I believe the file only works on a 1mb cartridge.
Because of the banking-scheme.
