Post subject:  Formatting an atr image problems

I am trying to format an ATR image and am using SpartaDos 3.2g.
The problem is that the formating never happens even though I select NO for Ultraspeed.
I keep getting a message of Ultraspeed not being supported in the unregistered version.
I can format the image with MyDos 4.5, but am I restricted to using it?

Also, when I am trying to salvage 5.25 floppies, I am trying to use IBM formatted 1.2meg disks and they give intermittent booting errors.
Does this mean that the 1.2meg disks are not good for formatting to a lower density?
Or should I custom format them for the 1.2meg capacity?
What parameters would I pass with Spartados xinit to get that capacity and would the disk afterward be bootable?

If you create a command filter to reject the $3F command, Spartados will not detect Ultraspeed and will only use standard SIO. If you are using an RS232 interface, you can also set the 'preferred rate' to 0x28, which may also stop Spartados from using Ultraspeed.

1.2MB HD disks are not really compatible with the Atari disk drives. They will not be able to fully erase the data written with a HD mechanism, so even if they work, they will quickly fail thereafter.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I dropped the transfer rate and was able to format an ATR image with Spartados.
As to using the 1.2 meg disks, I think if I restrict them to the XF551 drive formatted to 360K I should be ok.
This is since one can do the same format in a 1.2meg drive.
The only difference, and I remember on reading a disk formatted to 360K in a 1.2meg drive, sometimes the 360K drive would have problems reading them and writing to them. The difference was in the write/read head.
