Hi all,

I recently got my USB SIO2PC interface and since you can also connect a real drive to it I decided to convert my small collection of copy protected disks to .PRO image files.
However my success rate is low. More than half of the disks I converted, the .PRO file didn't work. Below the failed and succeeded list of titles I converted to a .PRO image file.

Succeeded (All in simple emulation mode (0))
- Blue Max (Synsoft)
- KULT (ASF)
- Paint (Atari)
- Stone Fire (Sikor Soft)
- Tigers in the Snow (SSI)

Failed
- Alley Cat (Synapse)
- Colossus Chess 3.0 (English Software)
- Electraglide (English Software)
- International Karate (System 3)
- Movie Maker (Electronic Arts)
- Operation Blood
- Quasimodo (Synsoft)

Of the 4 .PRO file included with APE 3.0.2, three work but "Archon - The Light and the Dark" doesn't work for me.

The different emulation modes do not seem to make any difference. I tried it on normal speed (No Warp OS, just the regular XL OS). And the drive to create the .PRO files was just a stock 1050 drive that booted the original copy protected disks without any problems.

Some questions:
- Will a Happy enhanced drive more successful in creating .PRO images?
- What is the difference between all the different emulation modes?
- The manual of the DOS version of the Pro file system speaks of altering the timings but the Windows version does not have that option anymore. Possibly that there is no track to track delay might fail the protection check.

So in short, what are your experiences with creating .PRO image files.

Robert

I suppose nobody tried to create .pro images here
Ah, well. It is not so important since I cracked most of my originals already
