Thanks!

I think I've finally found the issue - and it's specific to XP (I put together an XP VM to try it out).

It seems that there is yet another bug in WPF 3.5 that it can't cope with new, hi res, format .ICO files (I was using a new format .ICO file for the app!).

I've dropped it down to an XP generation ICO, and tested it on the XP machine. The app should now start and correctly report any problems.

and myidetool \\.\PhysicalDrive3 -l gives this info.

MyIDE Tool V0.40
(c) 2006-2010 by Matthias Reichl <hias@horus.com>

MyIDE 3.x/4.x CHS partition table:
2032 cylinders 16 heads 63 sectors (1008 sectors per cyl)
Image space: disabled
partitions: 3 option byte: 00000000 drive bits: 00001101
part active drv start end dns sectors
1 yes D1: 1 67 DD 65535
2 yes D3: 67 133 DD 65535
3 yes D4: 133 199 DD 65535
4 no D0: 0 0 SD 0
5 no D0: 0 0 SD 0
6 no D0: 0 0 SD 0
7 no D0: 0 0 SD 0
8 no D0: 0 0 SD 0

Just a quick thought--- I reread the original post and it seem that I should have Image space enabled. But I never use images just Partitions........

Great. Thanks for the info!

Four problems should now be solved with the following:

1. App will now actually start on XP (now using low-res ICO)!
2. Poor diagnostic message delivery fixed (I've done away with the splash screen)
3. Can now handle not being able to get drive geometry (skips them, keeps looking for other drives)
4. Now supports image space being absent, i.e. a partitions only mode.

Updated in place:

Closer, but not quite yet. NO errors, but reading physical drive 1 instead of 3.

Excellent!

OK, I've added a check for active partitions in determining which drive is the right one.

So, if the drive either has image slots or active partitions then it will be the drive to use.

Look.. there's an "error reading info of image 739" peeking over the bottom of that image..

Thats the problem here.

I've added tollerance for that error (looks like I should do a closer audit of the myidetool code to see if I now have all the in-line error reports.

Updated in place: v0.6

OK - that's the problem.

The drive needs to have been configured on your Atari before it can be used with myidetool.exe (and hence my GUI).

I think there's been a communication breakdown here:

Attachment:

This is a card partititioned using the SDX LBA partitioning system, clearly supported by Hias's Tool. It's apparent that the Drive Manager can't make sense of LBA partitions.

Did you speak to Hias about the LBA extensions in the latest version of MyIDETool?
