Hello all.

It's holidays overhere, so I have spent some days behind my Atari
to make this OSS special. Here it is for everybody to download.

Basic XE won't run with the 3.5F MyIDE-OS ran from OS-RAM area.
To bypass the 3.5F OS from loading from flash, hold OPTION during
power-up ! You can run the cartridge with your standard OS and use
normal diskdrives. Or use your internal MyIDE OS.

Cheers,
Sijmen.

P.S. Since the ROM-images uses all the 128k of the flashrom, this
compilation does not hold the FDISK tool. You must use a disk
version if needed.

Thanks, this is an awesome collection.

IN playing with Basic XE, I've noticed that if I have any BXE programs that use the extensions (BASICXE.OSS) that it locks up the computer while loading the extensions.

Do you have any ideas on how I can get around this? (short of not running those programs)?

Thanks!

Great job !

In the wish list, I would appreciate a menu with all MyIDE tools that is:
0 or Fire) MyPicoDos
1) NONE (48 K RAM)
2) BASIC
3) ASSEMBLER
4) FDISK
5) MyIDE CONFIG
6) MyIDE MANAGER

And, if there is still some space left, then put MAC65/DDT instead of ASSEMBLER

Note that Fire button is very important for MyPicoDos to be able to launch a game on file on XEGS with no keyboard at all !

I don't dare asking for this menu but I would greatly appreciate it. Anyone else interested in this menu ?

Thank you,

Eric.

The bootmenu is for selecting a bank from flash-memory
to act as an Atari-cartridge on bootup. Unfortunately, it can
NOT be used to load a EXE file. These files you need to put
in the flashportion of the cartridge using the maxflash tool.

The standard 3.5F configuration has ~90k of unused space
to hold the extra programs you need. Fdisk is already in it.

Mac65 can not be put in this configuration, since it uses part
of this 90k. Once it's used for EXE files it's full.

About the BXE-extensions: I'm not familiar with it. I only hacked
the OSS cartridge to use the banking-scheme of the maxflash.
It would be likely that the extensions use the original OSS switching
and crashing the system or stop loading.

Cheers,
Sijmen.

I guessed that.

I am still interested in making one menu instead of 2 cascading menus. Is there a way to get the sources of this OSS menu including the modified OSS cart images which run inside the flash so I can build my own MyIDE Flash menu ?

Thank you,

Eric.

Hello Eric,

Attached you find the source for making a modified bootmenu for 35F-OS.

The file flashrom.m65 is the boot menu.
You must assemble it as a 2k file cartridge file.
(Thus ending with the cartridge control bytes).

Use at your own risk.

The make-os.bat file creates the new 3.5F ROM which you can use with maxflash.

To include other roms at otherplaces, you need to hack (yourself) the
flasher.atr made with maxflash.

Cheers,
Sijmen.

Thank you very much :D

I already have made a new bootrom with MyPicoDos instead of Assembler.
I guess that nobody really needs Assembler. Maybe you're the only one using it :)

I would like to post this modified version and probably others to come. Are you OK with this ?

Thank you,

Eric.

No, I think not.

Hacking around to create homebrew cartridge-images is not easy to do.

But if you want info/help, you can always PM me.

Cheers,
Sijmen.

This is pretty sweet, but I'm having some issues with Action! It boots, but then acts strangely, such as giving me an "Error 0" when I type control-shift M. If I then type DOS the machine basically locks up.

I tested Basic XL and it appears to be working fine. This is with MyDOS 4.53/4. I even re-flashed the cartridge just to make sure it messed up the first time.

Any ideas?

I got this email from Larry back in 2007

Larry wrote:
Yes, I got the "Error 1" several times, also. But it worked fine after, so I did not consider it a problem. If you want to get rid of it entirely, press RESET (shift+cntl+esc) immediately after booting to Action!. After resetting, there will be no error at all. A flag somewhere is likely not what is expected. IF the image could be initialized through a warm reset, it would probably kill this issue.

Cheers,
Sijmen.
